BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police held a preparatory meeting today for the upcoming Durga Puja and immersion festival at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack. The meeting was led by Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, with DCP Jagmohan Meena and senior police officers in attendance.
The focus of the meeting was to ensure a safe, liquor-free, and disciplined immersion festival. For the first time, the Commissionerate Police will deploy Police Mitra at the immersion ceremony. A total of 300 Police Mitra volunteers will be appointed, with two assigned to each of the 174 mandaps across the city.
Traffic management during the Puja was another key area of discussion, given the large crowds expected in the city. To maintain order and ensure smooth movement, 70 platoons of police force and more than 200 police officers will be deployed throughout Cuttack during the festivities. In addition, 24-hour control rooms will be established at key locations, and CCTV cameras have been installed at various mandaps to monitor for any anti-social activities.
These efforts reflect the Commissionerate Police’s commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable festival for all, with enhanced security measures and community involvement through the Police Mitra initiative.
