Pradip Kumar Sahoo: From a Small- town Dreamer to an accomplished Chartered Accountant

Humble Beginnings and the Pursuit of a Dream

 

Born to Late Damodar Sahoo and Smt Bimalapriya Sahoo, Pradip grew up in a modest household where values of hard work and integrity were deeply ingrained. His early education at DAV School in Bolani was just the beginning of a journey filled with challenges and breakthroughs. Initially, Pradip pursued science at Anandpur College, but destiny had other plans. A newfound passion for commerce led him to switch streams and graduate with First Division—an early indicator of his dedication and intellect.

 

However, it wasn’t just academics that shaped Pradip’s path. A turning point came when his father’s friend, CA Sanjay Puri, introduced him to the world of Chartered Accountancy. Inspired by Puri’s success and mentorship, Pradip set his sights on becoming a CA—a goal that, at the time, seemed almost impossible for a boy from a small town in Odisha.

 

Defying the Odds: The Struggles Behind Success

 

Pursuing Chartered Accountancy was no easy feat. Pradip moved to Bhubaneswar for his articleship training under CA Aswini Kumar Kar as per the requirement of ICAI,New Delhi. The road ahead was filled with financial hardships, sleepless nights of studying, and, perhaps most challenging of all, constant discouragement.

 

Many around him doubted his potential. People told him that if those living in big cities or even abroad couldn’t clear the CA exams, how could a boy from a backward area in Odisha will succeed pursuing in Bhubaneswar where no coaching facilities available ? Some tried to pull him down, questioning his ambitions and comparing him to others who had failed pursuing CA course in metro cities. Even within his family, pressure mounted—he was repeatedly asked to marry when he was more focused on securing his career. But Pradip refused to give in. He knew that his success would not only change his life but also inspire countless others from similar backgrounds.

 

In 2005, after years of struggle and dedication, Pradip Kumar Sahoo officially became a Chartered Accountant. It was not just a personal victory but a resounding answer to all those who doubted him. His marriage was already scheduled just two days after the result publication.

 

A Career Marked by Excellence and Leadership

 

Becoming a CA was just the beginning. Over the years, Pradip took on leadership roles across various sectors—private firms,companies, media houses, and government organizations—each time proving his mettle with his expertise and vision. He assumed office of Chairman of ICAI, Bhubaneswar Branch in February 2023 & he continues to make significant contributions to the Society, professional community, guiding young aspirants and shaping the future of the profession.

 

One of his most remarkable achievements was hosting the National CA Conference 2023, an event that saw the participation of distinguished figures like Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan for the first time in history of Institute as both Union Ministers(Laxmi-Finance & Sarswati-Education) were on the same stage. The conference, attended by over 1500 Chartered Accountants from across the globe, was a testament to Pradip’s organizational skills and his deep commitment to his profession. This event was telecasted by many big media houses across the country as well as abroad.

Beyond ICAI, he serving as the Independent Director for Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC),Govt of Odisha and also Chief Financial Advisor for IIG Group. His belief in Odisha’s untapped tourism potential drives him to promote the state’s cultural and natural heritage. Through OTDC, he envisions making Odisha a global tourist hotspot, thereby boosting its economy and creating opportunities for local communities.

Beyond Finance: A Passion for Cinema

 

What sets Pradip apart from many in his field is his diverse interests. He is not just a Chartered Accountant—he is also an actor! In a surprising turn, Pradip made his acting debut in the Odia film “Kabula Bara Bula Searching Laila” alongside prominent Ollywood star Anubhav Mohanty & Elina. His foray into cinema reflects his dynamic personality and his belief that one should never limit oneself to just one field. He also appeared in 3 more odia films apart from above. Whether it’s finance or film, Pradip brings the same level of dedication and passion to everything he does.

Staying Rooted: Giving Back to His Homeland

 

Despite his national and international achievements, Pradip remains deeply connected to his roots. He frequently visits his hometown in Keonjhar, not just to reconnect with his past but also to uplift his community. One of the key ways he contributes is by advocating for Kesharikund Mohatsav, Odisha’s largest Makar Mela. He sees the festival as more than just a cultural event—it is an opportunity for economic growth, community bonding, and showcasing Odisha’s rich traditions to the world.

Words of Wisdom for Aspiring CAs

 

Pradip often shares a powerful message with young aspirants: “Be honest, work hard, and commit yourself to continuous learning.” He firmly believes that success in CA—or any field—comes from dedication, ethical conduct, and the ability to embrace challenges. He often quotes Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who emphasized the crucial role of CAs in nation-building.

 

His journey proves that with determination, anything is possible. He turned every hardship into motivation, every setback into a stepping stone, and every challenge into an opportunity.

Today, as the senior partner of M/s Pradip Sahoo and Associates Pradip continues to shape Odisha’s financial and industrial landscape. But for him, success isn’t just about personal achievements—it’s about giving back, inspiring others, and working toward a prosperous Odisha. His story is a reminder that no dream is too big, no background too small, and no obstacle too great when met with unwavering determination.
