Puri To Host BRICS Disaster Risk Meet From June 3

Under India’s BRICS Presidency, Puri will host the BRICS Technical Meeting of the “Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group” from June 3–5, 2026. The three-day gathering, which will take place at the Taj Puri Resort, will bring together experts and delegates from the BRICS member nations to debate important topics pertaining to international collaboration, resilience building, and catastrophe management.

Participation in the discussions is anticipated from a number of countries, including Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and China. In appreciation of the State’s proactive, effective, and strong efforts in the area of disaster preparedness and management, Odisha has been chosen to host this significant technical conference.

Odisha, in particular, has gained recognition on a global scale for its successful rescue and evacuation plans, community-based early warning systems, and efficient cyclone management. It is anticipated that the technical meeting would increase mutual collaboration, encourage debates on innovative technologies and coordinated methods, and facilitate information sharing among BRICS countries on disaster management. In this regard, holding a major technical conference of BRICS countries in Puri would not only highlight Odisha’s accomplishments and proficiency in disaster management on a worldwide scale, but it will also improve the State’s reputation internationally.
