Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has invited Japanese businesses to deepen their investments and partnerships in India, highlighting the country’s expanding market, young workforce and opportunities across emerging sectors. The outreach comes as Uttar Pradesh hosts more than 200 Japanese business leaders and industry representatives for the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026.
The discussions are focused on sectors including advanced manufacturing, technology, infrastructure, logistics, mobility, energy, clean technology and industrial clusters. Uttar Pradesh is particularly positioning itself as a destination for Japanese companies looking to expand production and build supply-chain links in India.
The investment push also builds on the broader India-Japan economic relationship. Earlier this year, India and Japan announced a range of strategic technology and economic cooperation initiatives, while Japanese companies continued to expand their manufacturing presence in India. Maruti Suzuki’s Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana, inaugurated in July, is another example of the deepening industrial partnership between the two countries.
For India, greater Japanese investment could bring more than capital. It could accelerate technology transfer, strengthen domestic supply chains, improve manufacturing capabilities and create employment opportunities.
Goyal is scheduled to visit Japan from August 24 to 27, where discussions are expected to focus on further strengthening trade and investment cooperation.
As India seeks to establish itself as a global manufacturing and technology hub, the growing India-Japan partnership could become an important pillar of that ambition.
