Investment Of USD 12 BIllion For Steel Plant In Odisha, Planning By POSCO

In association with IPICOL and the Odisha Government, the Indian Chamber of Commerce organized the Roundtable on South Korea and Odisha for developing the Bilateral Business Opportunities 19 April 2021, at Bhubaneswar.

According to the official report, Captain Divya Shankar Mishra, Minister, Industries, Energy, MSME & Home, Government of Odisha briefed that Odisha & Korea have many opportunities to collude beyond the recognised focus sectors of Odisha.

Minister further elaborates that  Odisha is in the process of executing a strategy document, Vision 2030 which endeavours to assure that 50% of the primary metal produced in the State value-added with Odisha.

Shin Bongkil, Ambassador of South Korea to India who was also presented informed that 66 new Korean Companies have entered India in 2020. Korean companies have produced an investment of US$17 million in 2020 as analysed to US$ 21.15 million which is a good amount as the pandemic situation is getting worst day by day.

He also informed that POSCO, the Korean Steel giant has strategies to make one of the single largest FDI in the history of India with an investment of US$ 12 Billion to set up an integrated steel plant in Odisha.

Dr Young Seaon Park, Director, KOTRA stated that Korean companies are very enthusiastic to operate in the areas of Renewable Energy, Water Treatment & Smart City Projects. B2B meetings will be organized in September 2021 for exploring opportunities in Smart City Projects.

Dr Nitin B Jawale, Special Secretary, Department of Industries & Managing Director, IPICOL talked about the strength & diversity of Odisha through an AV. He also embellished on the Vision 2030 of Odisha and also informed that Odisha is anticipating an investment of 200000 crores.

The session was directed by J B Pany, Chairman, ICC Odisha State Council & Siddhant Kaul, Consul General, Republic of Korea & Past President, Indian Chamber of Commerce.
