Sprinter of Odisha Dutee Chand couldn’t able to qualify for the semi-finals of the women’s 200m event in the Tokyo Olympics as she finished a distant seventh.
According to the reports, Dutee finished with her season’s best timing of 23.85 seconds while running in heat 4 at track two of the Olympic Stadium but that was not good enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
The report further added that USA’s Gabrielle Thomas clocked 21.61 seconds to win the Heat 4, while, Namibia’s Christine Mboma was second with 22.67 seconds and Brazil’s Cristina Vitoria Rosa finished third.
The first three in each heat qualify for the semifinals and the next three fastest (all seven heats combined) also advanced to the last four.
Dutee, who has a personal best of 23 seconds, ended at 38th overall out of 41 competitors. Earlier also, she failed to progress to the semifinals of the women’s 100m event as well, finishing seventh in her heat with a timing of 11.54s.
