To increase the remuneration of all contractual government employees by 50 percent, the Odisha government approved the proposal and also further referred to them as ‘Initial Appointees’.
According to the official reports the decision was taken by the state cabinet meeting which was held by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Law Minister Pratap Jena stated that the contractual employees would now be referred as to ‘Initial Employees’.
Pratap Jena further elaborated that the appointment will be regularised after six years and the employees will also be able to avail medical expensed like regular employees. The enhanced DA will benefit around 4 lakh regular employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners. Further it was added that the DA on the salary of government staffers has now gone up to 28 per cent from 17 per cent.
Pratap Jena further added that on this account the state government will have to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 250 crore per annum. Earlier, the employees were not entitled to any additional benefit, but as per the recent decision, they will be entitled to reimbursement of their medical expenses.
Initially it was noted that the original appointment in Group B , C and D in Odisha are being regulated as per the provision under the Contractual Appointment Rules, 2013.
