KFC outlet at Badambadi in Cuttack was raided by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation after they seized a large number of expired buns and bread on November 2. They have also seized cooked food items including non-vegetarian food and fried rice which did not have any packaging date printed on them.
According to the reports, a complaint was received by the Civic body that the restaurant was serving deficient and expired food items to its customers, to which the raid was conducted. the seized food items have been sent to a lab for further analysis. If the test reports confirm sub-standard food, then the popular restaurant chain will be served a notice and subsequently sealed.
Dr Satyabrata Mohapatra, CMC health officer stated that even though they have received complaints still it was scheduled to do an inspection too to which it was revealed that the restaurant was using buns and bread which have been expired. The bread is made using yeast. So those should not be discarded following expiry. But they found that the law was being flouted, so they seized the dated food.
