An official from the government delegation visiting the US has stated that the upcoming manufacturing facility in Odisha will mark a pioneering endeavor for the state and showcase the state government’s endeavors to establish a semiconductor ecosystem. US-based Silicon Power Corporation has displayed interest in establishing a silicon carbide manufacturing facility in Odisha with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore. The investment will be made through their Indian subsidiary, RIR Power Electronics, according to official sources.
After meeting with company promoter Harshad Mehta, the Odisha government delegation received a letter of intent (LOI) from the company regarding their plans.
Silicon Power, founded in 1994 by Mehta and headquartered in the US, holds a prominent role as a technology developer and solutions provider. Their expertise encompasses the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of high-power semiconductor devices and utility-focused systems.
The government delegation member emphasized that this facility will be unprecedented in Odisha and will reflect the state’s dedication to nurturing a semiconductor ecosystem.
Harshad Mehta’s team from the company has conveyed their eagerness to visit Odisha within the next month. They have also provided assurance of their commitment to initiate operations within the coming 18 to 24 months.
