In an exclusive interview with Interview Times, Dr Mishra opens up about his passion for the regional language and his unyielding commitment to the revered Lord Jagannath.

A Journey Fueled by Love

Born and raised in the quaint town of Dhenkanal, Dr Mishra’s fascination with language and culture began at a tender age. As a young boy, he was captivated by the richness of Odia literature and the spiritual aura surrounding Lord Jagannath. This early fascination became the driving force behind his relentless pursuit of knowledge. “I was captivated by the richness of Odia literature and the spiritual aura surrounding Lord Jagannath from a very young age. Every Odia youth should know about his language and Lord Jagannath,” he asserted, underlining the essence of his mission.

 

The Literary Crusader

With a profound commitment to his cause, Dr Mishra embarked on a literary crusade to preserve and expand Odia’s cultural heritage. He authored 37 books, each meticulously crafted to enlighten the new generation about the significance of the Odia language and Jagannath culture. His works, including ‘Purushottam Jagannath’, ‘Prachin Odisha,’ and ‘Moulika Odia Bhasatatwa,’ have become essential reads in the state’s school curriculum.

 

“Through my 37 books, I aim to enlighten the new generation about the significance of the Odia language and Jagannath culture,” Dr Mishra shared.

 

One of his seminal works, ‘Odia – Eka Sastriya Bhasa,’ stood as an exhaustive documentation of the historical studies and growth that led to the classical status of the Odia language. Released in 2013, the same year when Odia received its classical language status from the central government, the book brought him the prestigious President’s Certificate of Honour in 2019.

 

An Advocate for Odia in Education

Dr Mishra’s passion extended beyond his pen; he strongly advocated for the use of Odia in the foundational learning of students. Firmly rooted in research, he highlighted the cognitive benefits of mother tongue education. His vision aligned with the new education policy’s principles of regional language learning, and he ardently urged its proper implementation to realize the National Education Policy’s goals.

 

“The education system should prioritize the use of Odia language in foundational learning to nurture proper cognitive development,” the esteemed author expressed.
