The Odisha government on Thursday increased security across six key districts and deployed extra police troops to ensure Hanuman Jayanti festivities go ahead without incident, a day after a group scuffle broke out in Sambalpur. In Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur, and Koraput’s Jeypore, new security force deployments were made. Hanuman Jayanti celebrations have ended in certain regions, while they will continue in others on Friday.
Similar prohibitions under section 144 of the CrPC have been placed in place till April 24 between 3 pm and 9 am in Koraput Subdivision. Unauthorized rallies and processions are not allowed in Jeypore Subdivision at the same hours till April 20. According to sources, the state’s intelligence division is closely monitoring social media posts that are posted and shared around the country in order to prevent any further escalation. According to reports, the department is keeping a careful eye on the regions where Hanuman Jayanti will be observed on Friday.
