West Bengal officials are reported to have stopped the construction of a collapsed wall on the disputed Udayapur beach under the Bhogorai block of this district.
According to the official reports, after the local residents from Odisha offered resistance the officials of West Bengal have stopped the construction. The officials have tried to rebuild a boundary wall that had collapsed along with a watchtower during Cyclone Yass that affected Udayapur Beach in May this year.
But the difficulty started after the local administration officials of Bengal started rebuilding the demolished wall by trespassing 50 ft into Odisha’s territory. Balasore Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Bhabesh Nayak stated that they cannot allow any construction work on this disputed site and the repair of the wall has been stopped forthwith.
Nayak further added that they will take up the matter with their own counterparts in the East-Midnapore district and the dispute has to be resolved amicably through dialogue.
