BJD MPs Seek GI Tag For Odisha’s Sweet Dish ‘Rasabali’


Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs from Odisha demanded Geographical Indication (GI) tag for ‘Kendrapara Rasabali’ while submitting a memorandum.

According to the reports, ‘BJD MPs  Subash Chandra Singh, Munna Khan and Mamata Mohanta, met Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi and submitted a memorandum seeking GI tag for Kendrapara Rasabali.

In their memorandum, it stated that Kendrapara Rasaballi, which originated in Baladevjew Temple more than 400 years ago, is deep-fried patties of cheeses soaked in thickened milk. Several people in the Kendrapara district depend on the sale of the sweet for their livelihood. But due to improper marketing strategies and misuse of its name, it has failed to gain widespread recognition.
