The by-polls to three vacant seats in the West Bengal Assembly will be conducted on September 30 and the counting will be done on October 3.
According to the reports, the Election Commission announced 5that the bypolls to Samserganj, Jangipur and Bhabanipur in West Bengal and Pipli in Odisha will be held on September 30,.
The elections will be held in adherence to Covid protocol. A new rule has been introduced according to which any candidate, polling agent or driver who comes in contact with the election or public officials must be doubly vaccinated against Covid-19.
At present, there are 31 vacant seats in the legislative assemblies of various states and two seats in the Lok Sabha. However, in view of the pandemic, by-elections are being held only in West Bengal (and Odisha) in September on the special request of the West Bengal government.
The announcement of the bypolls clears the way for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to make her way back into the Assembly.
