Centre Appoints IAS Officer Of Odisha Cadre Krishan Kumar As MD Of NHIDCL

Krishan Kumar, an Odisha cadre IAS officer from the 2002 batch, was named MD of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) by the Center in a bureaucratic shuffle.

His appointment is significant since officials with experience in crisis management were required to lead NHIDCL following the Silkyara Tunnel Collapse. When Cyclone Phailin ravaged the southern Odisha district in October 2013, Kumar was working as the Ganjam collector. Because to vigilant administration, the number of victims was kept to a minimum.

After being appointed as the Union government’s Joint Secretary for the Department of Commerce, the senior IAS officer departed on central deputation in February 2022. At that time, he was the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) at Puri in addition to his role as Works Secretary.

In Odisha, Kumar oversaw implementation of some top priority infrastructure projects, including Rs 3200 crore ABADHA (Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture) scheme in Puri and the Rs 5,000 crore plan to upgrade SCB Medical College to AIIMS-plus standard.
