CM Naveen Patnaik Extends Raja Wishes, Urges People To Celebrate Indoors

On the occasion of the Raja Festival in the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended his wishes and asked all the people to celebrate it with family members while staying inside their houses because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

While tweeting he quoted from his official account- “My heartfelt congratulations to all on the occasion of Raja. This is our unique tradition of honouring the greatness of earth, nature and woman. Celebrate it at home with family members in times of Covid crisis. Awareness and cooperation of all will make us victorious in the fight against Covid-19”

Raja is a three-day festival in Odisha which celebrates menstruation and womanhood. The festival is observed to respect Bhudevi, who is considered the wife of Lord Jagannath. It is believed that Mother Earth goes through a menstrual cycle for three days and is given a ceremonial bath on the fourth day.

In a country where menstruation is largely shunned, Raja is a unique festival that celebrates womanhood, blending rich traditions along with fun and frolic. The entire family and village come together and enjoy the festival with utmost joy.
