Committees To Deal With Sickle Cell Diseases In Odisha Soon

As another significant step towards improvement of Public Health in Odisha, Government has started preparations for the detection and treatment of sickle cell in different parts of the State.

It was known from an office order issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare today. Secretary of the department Shalini Pandit said that institutional arrangements from State to Block level would be put in place for implementation and monitoring of the drive and coordination among the stakeholders said an official press release.

State Government ordered for constitution of coordination and monitoring committees at State, District and Block levels for dealing with sickle cell diseases (SCDs), she added.

The State level sub-committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Dept with Director NHM as co-chairperson.

Directors of School and Mass Education, ST & SC, Minority and Backward Class Development, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and Department of women and child development were taken as members.

Other members from academic institutions included Project Coordinator Odisha Sickle Cell Project, VIMSAR Burla; and Head of the Dept. of Haematology, SCB Medical College, Cuttack.
