Odisha Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack Mohammad Moquim filed a complaint about criminal defamation against BJP national spokesman Sambit Patra in a local court.
Earlier also MLA Moquim served a legal notice on the BJP National spokesperson for his statement that Cuttack MLA Moquim has received money from Arun Kumar Sahoo Agriculture Minister to remain silent on the Nayagarh Pari murder case after the State Government declared the court to monitored SIT probe into the horrifying incident.
Last December, Barabati Cuttack’s legislator served the legal notice warning to prosecute Patra for allegedly slandering the public image of all the Congress MLAs of Odisha, including him. Moquin further demands a public apology as according to him, Patra caused an irretrievable loss of his reputation and image.
In an official statement Moquim said- “As the public apology from Sambit Patra did not come, I was left with no other option but to take legal steps to desist him from further defaming my reputation.”
Several persons also contracted Mohammed Moquim to inquire about such baseless allegation, which negatively affecting his image in his political field. He filed a complaint in the court of a sub-divisional judicial magistrate in Cuttack through his advocate.
On December 1 BJP national spokesman Sambit Patra made an accusation against all nine Congress MLAs of Odisha by stating that they have a connection with the kidnap and murder of Nayagarh district’s minor girl. After that, Moquim immediately demanded that Patra take back his statement by holding a press conference and apologising with folded hands within seven days. Even he would constrain to begin criminal proceedings for defamation under the provisions of IPC, 1860 if he failed to comply with this within 15 days. To which Cuttack MLA filed a defamation case against Patra on Friday.
