The millennial city of Cuttack looks to have contracted dengue after the capital of Odisha, Bhubaneswar. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has recently started a cleaning campaign in the city as a result of an increase in dengue cases.
While dengue cases have significantly increased in Bhubaneswar over the past month and a half, the disease has so far mostly avoided Cuttack. However, reports claim that during the past several days, at least 72 dengue cases have been found in the city.
Following the identification of dengue cases in several areas of the city, the CMC has sprung into action. In addition to addressing possible mosquito breeding grounds in residential areas like CDA, the civic body has started spraying anti-mosquito oil, trimming plants, and other measures.
CMC’s health team along with Swachha Sathis are continuously making the people aware of dengue. They are visiting houses to ensure there are no empty flower vases, pots and other substances in which water can accumulate, sources said, adding that accumulated rainwater serves as a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes.
