Last year, the nationwide lockdown was triggered by the Corona epidemic. As a result, pollution levels across the country, including Delhi, have dropped. Despite this, Delhi has become the most polluted capital in the world. The data comes from a World Air Quality Report released on Tuesday.

According to the report, Delhi’s air quality has improved by 15 per cent in 2020 compared to 2018. Even then, Delhi ranks 10th in the world’s most polluted city and the most polluted capital in the world. In 2020, the air quality in Indian cities has improved by 43 percent. Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru are among the three most polluted metropolitan areas in India. The three most polluted countries are Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, while the three most polluted capitals are Delhi, Dhaka and Ulan Bator.

The main sources of pollution in India are transportation, bio-gas used for cooking, electricity generation, industrial construction, waste burning and straw burning. The biggest cause of smoke emissions is traffic.

Xinjiang is the world’s most polluted city, according to the report. It is followed by eight cities in India in the top 10 most polluted cities. Ghaziabad ranks second in the list of the most polluted cities in the world. It is followed by Bulandshahr, Bisarakh, Jalalpur, Noida, Greater Noida, Kanpur, Lucknow and Vivadi.

The list of the 30 most polluted cities in the world includes 22 cities in India. These include Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Bisarakh, Vivadi, Noida, Greater Noida, Kanpur, Lucknow, Delhi, Faridabad, Meerut, Jind, Hisar, Agra, Bahawalpur, Muzaffarnagar, Fatehabad, Bandhavadi, Gurugram, Yamunagar, Rohtak and Muzaffarpur.
