The annual dolphin census, a meticulous exercise in monitoring the population of these enigmatic creatures, has commenced with great fervor, as over 100 participants, including retired government officers, researchers, students, and experts, join forces to ensure the well-being of these aquatic ambassadors.
Nestled in the heart of Odisha, Chilika Lake, a Ramsar Site of international importance, is a haven for a diverse array of flora and fauna. The lake’s tranquil waters, which stretch across an impressive 1,100 square kilometers, provide a sanctuary for the endangered Irrawaddy and bottlenose dolphins.
