Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini: A Renaissance Scholar Nurturing Societal Transformation through Academia and Advocacy

With a foundation in both academia and social progress, Professor (Dr.) Sucheta Priyabadini has built an impressive career. Being well-known for her outstanding contributions to the field of social sciences, she started her education at Utkal University in Odisha, where she received the highest honours in both her graduation and post-graduation. Her passion for learning brought her to a Ph.D. programme at Utkal University, where she studied the “Role of Mother in Educational Achievement and Social Development of Children.” Pursuing a D.Litt. degree from KIIT, Dr. Priyabadini studied the “Social Mapping of Women Students in Engineering: A case study of Bhubaneswar.”

 

In 2010, she ventured into the global academic sphere by doing a Post-Doctoral Research project in Australia. With a focus on “Bilateral linkages between Australia and India,” her study particularly examined the experiences of Indian women professionals who were established in Australia. This project was funded by Monash University in Melbourne under the esteemed Endeavour Research Award.

 

With her numerous publications in prestigious national and international journals, books, and lectures at academic forums throughout the globe, Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini has proven her unwavering dedication to Gender and Women Studies. She demonstrated her proficiency in these areas when she spoke at the 63rd Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference in Melbourne, Australia, on the topic of “Feminine Power, Spirituality, and Human Wellbeing.”

 

She has mentored three Ph.D. students and four M.Phil. dissertations. Her academic accomplishments also include a recent book titled “Women Influencers of Odisha,” which was released in 2022 and captures the stories of Odia women in a variety of fields, from India’s freedom struggle to the present day.

 

In addition to her academic interests, Dr. Priyabadini has many other abilities. She has won awards at the state and national levels for her work in music and the arts. Her international impact and reputation were further cemented in 2015 when the Australian government designated her as the Australia Award Ambassador in appreciation of her extraordinary accomplishments.

 

Aarya Award for Education, Nishtha Women Achievers Award for Education and Research, Piktale Influencer’s Award, Chausathi Yogini Award for Art, and many more honours have recently been given to her in recognition of her achievements. In 2022, she received the “Lokanath Kala Samman” award for her commitment to the arts, and in 2023, the Global Yog Alliance recognised her for her outstanding teaching performance.

 

With a thirty-year history in academic administration and student affairs, her most recent position at KIIT, Bhubaneswar as Director of Student Counselling demonstrates her dedication to tackling mental health and wellbeing concerns among students.

 

Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini continues to enhance academics with her knowledge and steadfast commitment to social improvement while holding the Maa Rama Devi Chair Professorship at Rama Devi Women’s University, Bhubaneswar. Her many contributions continue to bear witness to her unwavering dedication to gender studies, education, and the holistic development of humankind.
