FEATURE: A California-based startup, REMspace, claims to have achieved a groundbreaking feat by allowing two individuals to communicate with each other while in a lucid dream. This extraordinary experiment hints at the possibility of making dream-to-dream communication a reality, though it has yet to undergo scientific validation.
Lucid dreaming, where a person becomes aware of their dream and can consciously control their actions, occurs during the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep phase. While the concept has long intrigued researchers, REMspace’s experiment pushes the boundaries by introducing real-time communication between two dreamers.
In this experiment, two participants were induced into a lucid dream state using a specially designed setup. The company has not disclosed the full details of the equipment but mentioned the use of brain wave monitoring and a ‘server’ to detect when participants entered the lucid dream phase. Once one participant was in a lucid dream, a message was transmitted to them through earbuds in a coded form, which the participant repeated in their dream.
The second participant, upon reaching a lucid dream, received the same message and repeated it after waking up. REMspace successfully replicated the experiment with another pair of participants, marking what they hope is a significant breakthrough.
Michael Raduga, founder and CEO of REMspace, is known for his visionary ideas, including a previous attempt to implant a microchip in his brain to control dreams. His new focus is on expanding the potential of lucid dreaming, suggesting applications ranging from mental health treatments to skills training that could be practised within dream environments.
Although these claims have yet to pass through rigorous scientific testing, Raduga predicts that lucid dreaming could become as revolutionary as artificial intelligence (AI). If proven successful, it may open new doors for sleep science and innovative communication technologies.
For now, the possibility of dream-to-dream communication remains an exciting prospect, bringing us closer to an idea once thought possible only in science fiction.
