FEATURE: Entrepreneur, social leader, and President of the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Neeladri (2025–26) — Rtn. Sujit Kumar Rout is a man who has built success not only in business but also in service to society. He has transformed his family’s Hindustan Advertising Agency into a modern, adaptive enterprise, while dedicating himself to projects that bring meaningful change to communities across Odisha and beyond.

Born on 2nd July 1988 in Village Rajgarh,Rajnagar, Kendrapara, Odisha, Mr. Rout grew up in a middle-class family where principles of hard work, honesty, and service were deeply ingrained by his father, Sri Arjun Charan Rout and mother Smt. Padmalaya Rout. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications from Fakir Mohan University, he stepped into the family business at the young age of eighteen which was Started by his uncle Sri Bijaya Kumar Rout, setting aside his dream of pursuing an MCA. Yet, his passion for learning never faded. Years later, he returned to academics and earned a Postgraduate degree in Women’s Studies from Utkal University — a choice that reflected his deep commitment to empowering women, promoting equality, and challenging outdated stereotypes.

When Mr. Rout joined Hindustan Advertising Agency in 2007, its reach was modest. With strategic thinking, a focus on client needs, and readiness to adapt to market shifts, he expanded operations across Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Bhawanipatna, and Bhadrak. He embraced the industry’s evolution from traditional OOH (Out-of-Home) advertising to DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home), proving that outdoor media remains a powerful platform when it evolves with technology. Today, his business not only thrives but also provides livelihoods to over sixty direct employees and many more indirectly.

Mr. Rout’s journey with Rotary began in 2016, when he found a platform that aligned with his lifelong desire to serve. “I have always believed that whatever you have — time, resources, or knowledge — you must share it with society. Rotary gave that belief a clear direction,” he says. Under his leadership, the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Neeladri has undertaken impactful projects: Project: Parivartan, transforming a tribal village “Jharabania” near Deras Dam through ,Community Centre development, livelihood project, healthcare, education, and cleanliness; Project:Prachesta to give education to poor children and also give them job in different sectors free of cost, Project:Amrut Dhara, installing water purifiers in government schools;  Project: Matrutwa, supporting maternal and child health; and Project: Aarogyam, offering affordable diagnostic and pathology services around 600 tests up to 50% discount and  doorstep sample collection facility available in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar city. His latest initiative, Chikitsa Mitra, aims to provide complete medical assistance to patients from hospital admission to recovery, ensuring no one faces illness alone.

His mission is clear — to take up sustainable projects that leave a lasting mark. He is working to create new forests, plant economically beneficial trees on barren and private lands, and elevate the Parivartan project to new heights. His vision extends beyond the state; in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, he has been part of projects to build homes for tribal communities and promote cleanliness awareness through the “Bison Bin Project.”

For Mr. Rout, business and service are not competing priorities but complementary forces. “Business is my profession and Rotary is my passion — both work side by side. My business gives livelihoods to many families, and Rotary gives me the fulfilment of contributing to a larger cause,” he reflects.

When asked about his legacy, his answer is simple yet powerful: “I don’t seek recognition for myself. If I can inspire even a few people to serve society in their own way, that will be my greatest achievement.” His message to the youth carries the same conviction: “Do something — no matter how small — for your community. Plant one tree and nurture it into a big one in your lifetime, and you’ve already made a lasting contribution. We are the society, and it is our responsibility to make it better.”

From growing a regional advertising business into a statewide presence to leading service initiatives that uplift lives, Rtn. Sujit Kumar Rout embodies the belief that leadership is measured not by titles or accolades, but by the positive difference one makes in the lives of others. His journey proves that when enterprise and empathy move together, they create a legacy worth remembering.
