Electric & Solar Powered Boats In Chilika Lake Soon

The State government intends to soon launch solar-powered boats in Chilika Lake on an experimental basis in an effort to make boat services in waterways safe and environmentally sustainable. A representative of the Commerce and carry Department announced today that the government intends to employ solar-powered boats to carry both people and products in place of the mechanical boats now used in rivers, lakes, the sea, and other bodies of water.

It attempts to lower transportation costs for water transmission as well as environmental degradation. The solar-powered boats will be tested in Chilika lakh for three months, according to Usha Padhee, secretary of the department of commerce and transportation.

“It is anticipated to reduce the cost of transporting mechanized boats by Rs 7 lakh annually. The trial initiative would be expanded to other state waterways if it is successful, she noted.

Prior to the development of the Odisha Boat Regulations, Padhee was addressing to the media outside of a workshop organized for stakeholders.
