Ex-Tamil Nadu DGP To Be Next Chief Information Commissioner Of Odisha

Odisha-born IPS officer and former Director-General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu Jalad Kumar Tripathy is tipped to be appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Odisha.

According to the reports, the name of the 1985-cadre IPS officer for the post was reportedly finalised at a virtual meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on September 21. Even a proposal to this effect has been sent to the Governor for approval after which a publication notification will be issued.

After Sunil Mishra tired on August 15, the post of the CIC remained vacant. Jalad Kumar Tripathy was retired as DGP on June 30 and was also the Police Commissioner of Chennai. He was born at Bheda of Cuttack district, he served in some sensitive posts in TN like IGP, South Zone. He was posted with the Crime Branch CID and Economic Offences Wing and gained popularity for cracking the 2012 Chennai Bank Robberies. He is also the first cop to receive the ‘Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration’ in 2008.
