BHUBANESWAR: The Ganesh Chaturthi laddu auction at Keerthi Richmond Villas in Bandlaguda, Hyderabad, has set a new benchmark this year, with the 5 kg laddu being sold for an astonishing ₹1.87 crore. The auction, held late on Monday night, September 16, saw a significant increase of ₹61 lakh from last year’s sale of ₹1.26 crore.
This annual auction, a highlight of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, saw enthusiastic participation from over 100 villa owners from diverse religious backgrounds. The event attracted more than 400 bids, showcasing the community’s festive spirit and generosity. “This unique charity auction not only celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi but also supports those in need,” said Abhay Deshpande, a managing trustee of the community.
The funds raised from the auction will benefit more than 42 NGOs, providing crucial support to underprivileged school children and medical aid for those in need. “All work by RV Diya Charitable Trust is carried out by volunteers with zero administrative costs. Every rupee raised directly contributes to creating a tangible impact on the lives of those we serve,” added Mr. Deshpande.
Since its inception in 2019, the Keerthi Richmond Villas laddu auction has become a prominent feature of the state’s Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. The auction started with the laddu fetching ₹18.75 lakh and has seen a steady increase over the years: ₹27.3 lakh in 2020, ₹41 lakh in 2021, ₹60 lakh in 2022, and ₹1.26 crore in 2023.
