Heat Wave Advisory: SRC Warns Against Going Outdoors Between 11 AM & 3 PM

On Friday, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office sent a warning to district collectors about the recent five-day heat wave that has affected the whole state. According to a special bulletin released by the IMD on Friday, a heat wave condition is very likely to exist at one or two locations over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjha, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, and Angul up until April 15 and over those same districts between 8.30 am on April 15 and 8.30 am on April 16, according to the advisory.

People have been advised that the current heat wave is manageable for most people but poses a modest health risk for those who are more susceptible, such as young children, the elderly, and those who are ill. Therefore, the public may be recommended to exercise caution when venturing outside between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm in certain places, according to the alert. The continuation of irrigation practices in sugarcane, summer maize, legumes, and other crops and vegetables has been urged to farmers. The recommendation further recommends that the District Collectors keep a close eye on the issue and take the appropriate steps in their respective jurisdictions.
