As the average inflow into the reservoir remained high at about 4.95 lakh cusecs, the Hirakud Dam authorities opened two more sluice gates on Sunday, bringing the total number of gates open to 28. The most recent Hirakud reservoir update, which was released at 3 p.m., stated that the average inflow was 4,95,350 cusecs and the reservoir water level was 628.33 feet. 4,44,526 cusecs was the average outflow.
There are currently nine sluice gates on the right side and 19 on the left after the two extra gates were opened. Water was being released from the reservoir via the canals, power channel, spillway, and industrial use. 34,161 cusecs were released through the power channel, compared to an average spillway discharge of 4,05,956 cusecs. 3,583 cusecs through the BMC, 500 cusecs through the SMC, and 105 cusecs through the SBP distributary made up the total canal discharge of 4,188 cusecs.
The current spillway discharge was 4,56,792 cusecs, and the reservoir’s outflow was recorded at 4,95,773 cusecs. The discharge at Mundali downstream was measured at 4,58,415 cusecs. At Barmul and Khairmal, the gage discharge was 5,98,000 and 6,62,000 cusecs, respectively. The discharge at Belgaon was 1,20,000 cusecs, whilst the discharge at Patharla was 2,63,173 cusecs. As the dam continues to release water, the Hirakud reservoir managers are keeping a careful eye on the inflow, outflow, and downstream discharge levels.
