Dhenkanal: A special program on ‘Career Opportunities in Media and Journalism’ was organized on Friday at Dhenkanal Mahila Mahavidyalaya in collaboration with the Career Counseling Cell and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Dhenkanal and Dhenkanal Mahila Mahavidyalaya.
Dr. Biranchi Narayan Seth, Assistant Professor, Department of English Journalism, IIMC Dhenkanal, Assistant Professor, Department of Odia Journalism, Dr. Chirasrota Jena, and Academic Associate Soumya Ranjan Bihara participated in the event and discussed career opportunities in the field of media, journalism, and communication.
The ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Odia Journalism’ offered at IIMC Dhenkanal is going to complete 25 years this year. Therefore, the faculty members of IIMC discussed various aspects of the Odia Journalism course, career opportunities and the success of the students who have passed it.
At the beginning, the Chairperson of Dhenkanal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Dr. Shakuntala Jena, gave an overview of the program. About 120 third year students of Dhenkanal Mahila Mahavidyalaya and faculty members from various departments participated in the program.
In 1993, the first Regional Centre of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi was opened in Dhenkanal and in 2001, the ‘Post Graduate Diploma Course in Odia Journalism’ was started at IIMC, Dhenkanal. This is the first linguistic journalism course in the country after Hindi. Last year, IIMC was granted Deemed University status.
