IIMC Dhenkanal observes IIMC’s 57th Foundation Day

Dhenkanal: On the occasion of its 57th Foundation Day, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has organized a special ‘Foundation Day Lecture.’ Senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of ‘Hindustan,’ a Hindi daily, Shri Shashi Shekhar is scheduled to deliver the lecture on the topic “Media Education: The Road Ahead” at 3:00 pm today.

After hoisting the IIMC standard, Regional Director of IIMC, Dhenkanal, Prof. Mrinal Chatterjee said, “An institute is like a river, with its impermanence flowing through its permanence, and like any other valuable asset, it too needs care and attention.” IIMC, Dhenkanal, has been at the forefront in imparting media education in the eastern region of the country and both its Odia and English post-graduate diploma courses have been a big success. The institute was established in 1993 by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, with the goal of teaching, training, and research in journalism and mass communication, and it is now celebrating its 28th anniversary. “I believe we as a national institute share the burden of responsibility, not only to impart media education but to also produce deployable individuals who can deliver and play a vital role in molding the society that we live in,” said Prof. Chatterjee.

The teaching and non-teaching staff also shared their experience at the institute thus far and paid respect to the previous directors and employees who served IIMC Dhenkanal throughout all these years of its existence. Prof. B.B. Mohanty, Prof. K.M. Srivastava, Prof. Umakant Mishra, Prof. Vepa Rao, Suresh Panigrahi, and Sudhanshu Mishra were among those who received special mention. Dr. Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra, Assistant Professor at IIMC, Dhenkanal said, “I am a student of this institute, from the 2002-03 batch of uninitiated, young, and ambitious boys and girls, and ever since then IIMC has always been an immense source of inspiration for me. I share a special bond with the institute and I don’t see it as machinery, but rather as a living creature that empowers, enables, and gives you a sense of identity and purpose.”

The Regional Director then spoke about the future prospects of IIMC before finally congratulating the entire IIMC Dhenkanal family on its successful completion of 28 long years in media education and motivated them to even work harder to live up to its name and reputation.
