In the last five years, more than 6.7 lakh people have left Indian Citizenship: Home Ministry

Between 2015 and 2016, more than 6.76 lakh people renounced Indian citizenship. Home Minister Nityananda Roy made the announcement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. They have renounced their Indian citizenship and become citizens of another country. Home Minister Nityananda Rai made the remarks in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. He said a total of 1,24,99,395 Indian nationals lived in other countries. The minister said that between 2015 and 2016, more than 6lakh people had renounced their Indian citizenship.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the number of people who renounced Indian citizenship in 2017 was 1,27,905. In 2016, 1,36,441 people renounced their Indian citizenship.

According to a report, most Indians have accepted U.S. citizenship. An average of 44 percent of people in the United States have renounced Indian citizenship. In Canada and Australia, an average of 33 percent of Indians have renounced Indian citizenship. In addition, a large number of Indians live in the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore and other countries.
