India becomes the world’s second largest producer of steel

Union Minister of Steel, stated that India has made remarkable progress in the steel sector over the last eight years.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of Steel, stated that India has made remarkable progress in the steel sector over the last eight years. He claimed that the country, which was previously a net importer of steel, has now become a net exporter. Today, the Minister addressed the Steel Conference of State Governments in New Delhi. Mr. Scindia also stated that India has risen from the fourth to the second largest producer of steel on a global scale.

 

Speaking about the country’s steel consumption growth, the Steel Minister stated that per capita steel consumption increased by 50% in the last eight years, from 57.8 kilogrammes to 78 kilograms. In terms of installed steel capacity, the country has increased from 100 million tonnes per year to nearly 150 million tonnes. Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia also stated that the country’s steel production has increased dramatically.
