23rd December celebrated as National Farmers Day of ‘Kisan Diwas’ where the nation celebrates in memory of India’s fifth Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.
Chaudhary Charan Singh was born at Noorpur, Meerut in 1902. He took administration as a Prime Minister of India from July 1979 to January 1980 and was well known for launching welfare schemes for farmers. In his whole life, he selflessly stood by farmers and raised farmer-friendly schemes. He recognized and hailed the significance of the agricultural economy and a farmer’s position in the economy. He has also authored numerous books on the culmination of Indian farmers and has even recommended solutions for them.
On his Birth Anniversary, the whole nation celebrates as National Farmers Day.
Right now the farmers are protesting against the Farm Laws passed in Lok Sabha, and on the occasion of Kisan Diwas, the protest gets more intensified. Even farmers have decided to skip a meal today to honour the day. The Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab has asked its members to observe fast in solidarity with the farmers.
Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister, greeted farmers on occasion, tweeting- “On Farmers Day, I greet farmers of the country. They have provided the country with food security. Some farmers are agitating against farm laws. Govt is holding talks with them with full sensitivity. I hope that they’ll end their agitation soon.”
