Issue Regarding Puri Jagannath Temple Ratna Bhandar: HC Notifies Gajapati Maharaja and Three Others

While hearing a petition asking for the opening of the Ratna Bhandar of the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri, the Orissa High Court issued notices to four defendants, including Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb.

While hearing a petition submitted by former BJP State unit president Samir Mohanty, the High Court served notices to the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Ranjan Kumar Das, the Chairman of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and its Odisha Superintendent.

The next hearing date in the case has been set by the High Court for August 7.

The Ratna Bhandar of the 12th century temple is in need of repair work, thus Mohanty has asked the High Court to order the State government to open it up while creating a new inventory of the treasures and decorations that have been housed within for years.
