Jindal Steel Works (JSW) in collaboration with Xavier Institute for Management Studies (XIMB), Bhubaneswar launched a socio-economic survey at the site of its proposed integrated steel plant in the district. The survey aims at drawing up immediate action points in sync with project activities like employment potential, likely options for local procurement of materials, hiring of equipment and other services in the pre-project phase.
According to the official reports, Ranjan Nayak, COO, JSW Steel, Odisha operations stated that this would help the company strengthen the socio-economic condition of the locality by generating economic opportunities for each household in the project affected villages. During the three-month survey, the company can identify youth with past experience of working in the mining, metals or steel sector and assess their skill level. Contractors in civil, electrical, material suppliers fields and households having commercial vehicles would also be tracked. It would cover around 4000 people of Polang village in Gadakujang panchayat, Nuagan and Dhinkia, Govindpur, Mahala and Patana.
The report further added that of about 175 applications received for the position of village-level coordinators (VLCs) in the first phase, the interview was conducted for 88 candidates from Nuagaon, Gobindapur, Patana, Mahala, Dhinkia and Polanga village. About 25 youths were selected and their induction was initiated. The company has also started inviting applications from the youths in Gadakujang, Nuagaon and Dhinkia panchayats for various technical and non-technical positions across India in JSW associate companies. Candidates in the age group of 18 to 29 years with minimum 3 years experience in trades such as fitter, electrician, welder etc. are being encouraged to apply. Fresh as well as experienced candidates below 29 years are being encouraged to apply.
