Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan stated that he is ready to quite a cinema for the sake of politics if it comes in way of his political career which is meant for serving the people.
While addressing the media persons at Coimbatore, the actor stated that he would complete all his movie assignments and contracts and is also contemplating walking off the silver screen if his political career demands. “I am ready to quit the film world and show business for politics if it demands so. However late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and popular actor MGR had continued to act in movies even after becoming an MLA to communicate his ideas to the people of Tamil Nadu and to serve the people,” he said.
Kamal Hasan is contesting from the Coimbatore South seat in the April 6 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He stated that his cinema career was becoming an obstacle he would leave it to serve people and many of his fellow candidates believe that Hasan will disappear from politics and re-enter movies. “Let us see who will quit politics… and as I said earlier, I will continue with politics,” says Hasan.
Even Kamal Hasan alleged that he had received many threats from various quarters but also refused to share the details regarding the matter. He also said that being an honest party, he has submitted the real expenses incurred during the campaign, which was lauded by a few elected officials. He also said that his party has provided proper details to Election Commission officials on the details of the money spent during the campaign.
