Konark Sun Temple & Other Centrally-Protected Monuments To Open From June 16

The daily cases of Covid-19 in Odisha dipped as the state witnessed 3,405 new cases and with this, the positive tally in the state climbed to 8,59,526 as per the state I&PR Department. With the current situation, the Centrally-protected monuments/sites and museums under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be opened for the public from June 16.

According to the report, an official notification was made from ASI stating – “This opening, however, shall be in strict compliance with the executive orders. if any, issued by State/District Disaster Management Authority. Appropriate guidelines and SOPs issued by Union and State/UT Ministries/Dept in this regard shall be scrupulously followed while regulating the flow of visitors.”

All the monumental sites have been closed since March 15 due to the second surge of the Coronavirus.  Odisha has 80 centrally-protected monuments and three museums at Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri and Konark that come under the purview of ASI. The monuments include the Sri Jagannath temple at Puri, Lingaraj temple at Bhubaneswar and Sun Temple at Konark.
