Dhenkanal – ‘ Magji Divas ‘ was celebrated with great fervor and gaiety on Tuesday at the Town Hall in Dhenkanal. It was organised by Sweets Association of Dhenkanal where Minister of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Science & Technology Krishna Chandra Patra attended the event as the Chief Guest. District Chamber of Commerce President Rajendra Das, KVK Dhenkanal Scientist Dr. Bimalendu Mohanty, senior journalist Pradyumna Rath, Dr. Dibya Sundar Kar, Ex Chairman of Dhenkanal Municipality Sunil Sharma attended the event as Guest of Honour.
Convenor of the Magji Divas celebration committee Master. Er. Soumyabrata Sahoo said, ” I am much happy that today we are celebrating Magji Divas. Last year the sweet got the GI tag and this is the first Magji Divas we are celebrating today.”
Dr. Bimalendu Mohanty of KVK, Dhenkanal said, “Today we are celebrating Magji Divas, it is definitely a day of pride for the residents of Dhenkanal district. Actually our historical sweet Magji, which is prepared from buffalo milk cheese and sugar is added and small cardamom also added to it and this is prepared by the traditional skills of our local confectioners which they have inherited from their forefathers.”
Dhenkanal famous sweet Magji is made from Buffalo milk cheese, sugar and cardamom powder. In 2024 Magji got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
