In 2023, Mishra was honored with the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his outstanding contributions to India’s shipping and maritime sectors, as well as his pivotal role in Odisha’s industrial modernization. Presented by Shri Gopal Krishna, a former Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, the accolade highlighted Mishra’s relentless efforts in driving economic growth. The award ceremony, held during the 8th East Coast Maritime Forum in Kolkata, also celebrated OSL Group’s excellence with the “Stevedores Company of the Year” award for 2023, reaffirming its position as an industry leader.
Born on May 7, 1953, into an aristocratic family in Odisha, Mishra displayed exceptional leadership qualities from an early age. His tenure as President of the Students’ Union at Christ College, Cuttack, and later at M.S. Law College, Odisha, honed his organizational and negotiation skills. In 1978, at just 25 years old, he laid the foundation of Orissa Stevedores Limited with a modest team of 15 members. This bold initiative marked the inception of an entrepreneurial journey that would revolutionize eastern India’s logistics and shipping sectors.
Under Mishra’s visionary leadership, the OSL Group grew into a diversified conglomerate spanning multiple industry. Its portfolio includes port-related activities such as stevedoring, customs house agency, intra-port transportation, and freight forwarding. The group has also ventured into port development, mining, and automotive sectors, operating under entities like OSL Motors Pvt. Ltd and OSL Automobiles Pvt. Ltd.
Beyond industrial operations, the OSL Group’s ventures in education, hospitality, manufacturing, and FMCG distribution have cemented its reputation as a multi-faceted enterprise. The establishment of DPS Kalinga, hospitality services through Grand Tours & Travels, and manufacturing operations in LAM coke and steel re-rolling are testaments to Mishra’s strategic vision.
