The South-West Monsoon is likely to touch Odisha around June 6 or June 7. Senior IMD scientist RK Jenamani informed that the Monsoon has advanced to south-east Bay of Bengal and is currently over the Andaman sea.
Speaking to reporters, Jenamani said, “Monsoon has already arrived over the Andaman Sea and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal. We have predicted for Kerala, that it would come around 27th May. So, as per the progress and all monitoring, it shows that our prediction will be correct for Monsoon.”
As per the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) mid-day bulletin, Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the south-west Monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, the entire Andaman Sea and the Andaman Islands and some parts of east-central Bay of Bengal during next 2-3 days.
Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds is very likely to occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next 5 days, the IMD predicted.
It further predicted, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is also likely to occur over the Andaman Sea and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal during May 16-18.
Due to strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to northeast & adjoining East India at lower tropospheric levels, isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds is likely to occur over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during next 3-4 days.
Meanwhile, the heatwave spell will persist over North-West and Central India. Heatwave condition in isolated pockets is very likely over northeast Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, south Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha and north Madhya Pradesh on 16 and over Bihar and Jharkhand on 16 and 17 May.
