More Than 1 Cr Olive Ridley Hatchlings Come Out Of Nests Along Odisha Shoreline

In the past few days, more than 1 crore Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings have emerged from their eggs and entered the water along the coast of Odisha. This year, several lakh Olive Ridleys went on their yearly journey to various coastal beaches around the coast. Staff members from the Forest Department were notified that they had excavated holes and placed eggs there before returning to the sea.

According to the reports, about 11.64 lakh Olive Ridleys are thought to have produced eggs this year in Gahirmatha in the Kendrapada district, Rushikulya river mouth in Ganjam, and Devi estuary area in Puri. In Rushikulya, 6.37 lakh turtles deposited eggs; in Gahirmatha, 5.26 lakh turtles did so. Before the nesting season ends this year, they predicted that 2 crore more young turtles will hatch around the shore.
