BJP MP from Bhubaneswar Aparajita Sarangi requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to have a discussion with Odisha Government for following the High Court order on the allowance of Home guards and discuss their abiding demands.

BJP MP by raising the issue in the Lok Sabha stated that the Supreme Court in March 2015 had ordered to pay the Home guards at par with the police personnel but it has not yet been complied with the following which Odisha Home guard Association have moved the Orissa High Court.

As per the report the High Court had directed the Odisha Government to pay Rs 533 to the home guards as daily duty allowance but the High Court is yet to have complied with it. Instead of paying them Rs 533, the State government is paying only Rs 300 to the Home Guards who are part of the police force but are not classified employees.

BJP MP Sarangi further requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss the matter with the State government and address the long-standing demands of the Home Guards.

The report further reports that around 17000 home guards are currently working in Odisha. Last Year in August the High Court had directed the State government to develop the daily allowances of home guards to Rs 533. The Court has also asked the government to pay the amount with pensive influence from January 2020.

In February 2020, the HC had directed the government to pay them compensation commensurate to the least monthly pay of the personnel in the lowest rank of Odisha Police following the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations.

The HC had passed such ruling while referring to a Supreme Court order instructing the State to return home Guards at par with police personnel.
