Sneha Soren, a 19-year-old weightlifter from Mayurbhanj district, has been nominated for the Ekalabya Award citation.
Sneha lives as a resident in Khiraghati village within Morada Police limits, participated in many weightlifting competitions, and won both at State and National levels. Paresh Mohanta has coached her for her training. Her training with the power-lifting is done at Mohanta’s training center. She prepares for around four hours a day and works a lot for her competition. “A few of my colleagues informed me that Sneha has been nominated for Ekalabya award citation. We are happy for her. When we broke the news to her she was completely speechless.” he stated. Along with the citation, Shena will also be awarded an amount of 50000.
In Commonwealth Games, Sneha won a gold medal in weightlifting, which was held in Australia in 2017. Apart from that, she has also won bronze and gold medals at the Asian Commonwealth Games and South Asian Games in 2019 and 2020, respectively. She also bagged the fifth position in the Youth Olympics, which was held in Argentina in 2017.
Bhijaraj Mohapatra, the district sports officer, was pleased with Sneha’s achievements and the hard work of her coach. He congratulated both of them for the honor.
