Odisha Cabinet Amends Semiconductor Policy For Better Growth

The modified move aims for higher investment in the semiconductor sector that can provide better employment opportunities to the states' youth

The cabinet under the leadership of Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik has amended the Odisha Semiconductor Manufacturing and Fabless Policy 2023, in order to increase the number of investors in the electronic sector. The step has been taken to pull the investors to establish facilities related to semiconductors and electronic chip manufacturing.

The amendments emphasise strengthening fiscal support mechanisms, including interest subvention, Production Linked Incentives (PLI), and investments in Research & Development and skill development training.

According to the modified provisions, the project is worth more than Rs 500 crore and will have easy access to the interest subsidy for 7 years.

The central government has also been focusing on creating an ecosystem for research & development in the field of semiconductors. Odisha as a state is not well developed for semiconductors, this move can be proven significant in that direction.
