Today, the Bagchi Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre in Bhubaneswar’s Infocity-2 neighborhood was officially opened by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Bangalore Hospice Trust’s Karunashraya institution worked together to construct the facility, and Sushmita and Subroto Bagchi generously donated money. Cancer patients nearing the end of their lives can receive free treatment at this 110-bed institution. The center received subsidized land and other help from the Odisha government. In the upcoming years, the center hopes to grow into research and education in addition to medical treatment.
Chief Minister Majhi characterized the facility as a light of humanitarian principles, exemplifying compassion, generosity, and charity, during the opening. He called the Bagchi pair role models for Odisha and praised them for their uncommon and selfless humanitarian service. He claimed that people would be motivated to assist society by their initiative. The Chief Minister emphasized the difficulties associated with cancer treatment, pointing out the emotional and financial strains families endure. He commended the Bagchi couple for building a top-notch institution that offers free, humane treatment to end the agony of people who are near death.
During his visit as a guest, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the center as a beacon of public service in India that exemplifies empathy and sacrifice. On behalf of Odisha, he thanked the Bagchi couple for their efforts in setting up this cancer facility. Dr. Mukesh Mahalinga, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, highlighted the center’s admirable goal and expressed optimism that it will be successful in lessening cancer patients’ suffering. In addition to thanking the Bagchi family, nurses, and medical professionals for their commitment, he promised complete government support for the project.
