The Odisha government has declared that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 would be implemented beginning with the 2025–2026 school year. The state has implemented a new minimum age criterion for Class I entrance as part of this strategy. Official sources state that six years of age or older is the minimal requirement for entrance to Class I. In order to guarantee the comprehensive academic growth of pupils, this choice was reached following discussions with specialists and educationists.
Additionally, to provide parents and pupils more flexibility, the School and Mass Education Department moved the age eligibility date from March 31 to September 1. By making this adjustment, children who turn six later in the year will be accommodated and won’t have any disadvantages when applying. The action is in line with NEP 2020’s emphasis on age-appropriate education and foundational learning, which highlights the need of a solid academic basis for young students.
