The state government has decided to hand over the operation and maintenance of wayside amenity centres constructed by the public works department (PWD) along different highways across the state to the Mission Shakti groups from April.
The amenity centres were earlier been handed over to the tourism department, which was asked to run them in public-private partnership (PPP) mode. However, the tourism department had failed to take over the centres following which officials during a high-level meeting recently decided to hand them over to the department of Mission Shakti.
“The Mission Shakti department will take charge of the amenity centres from April. We have issued instructions to the field level officials to take up repair work if required for any centre under their jurisdictions before they are handed over,” chief engineer (roads), PWD, Tara Prasad Mishra said.
