Odisha government on Wednesday ordered all the Chief District Veterinary Officers (CDVO) to be vigilant and remove stray dogs from the streets. The order came following a shocking incident in Hyderabad where a four-year-old boy was mauled by a pack of stray dogs on Tuesday.
Directing the CDVOs, Animal Resources Development Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain tweeted, “Seeing this horrifying incident at Hyderabad, I have directed respective CDVO’s of all 30 districts of Odisha to be strictly vigilant and remove stray dogs from road. CDVO’s have also been instructed to take immediate & proper action regarding this.”
Earlier in October 2022, a one-year-old toddler died after being attacked by stray dogs in Noida. It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court had suggested people who routinely feed stray dogs could be made responsible for their vaccination and also liable to bear the costs if those animals attack people while emphasising on the need to find a solution to the stray dogs’ menace.
