For improving the sports infrastructure in Odisha, the Odisha Cabinet approved a proposal to construct 89 multi-purpose indoor stadiums for which Rs 693.35 crore has been sanctioned.
According to the reports, the coastal state decided to construct the stadium in such a manner that, the sports facilities structures can withstand wind speed up to 200 km thereby can also be used as cyclone and flood shelters when needed and also can be converted into 50-100 bedded field hospitals during the time of Health emergency.
Besides, the government also aims to use these stadiums to organize training programmes, official meetings and exam centres. The stadiums will have facilities for badminton, table tennis, yoga, gymnasium, etc and the indoor hall space can be utilized for most of the indoor games and can be converted as per the local popularity of various indoor sports.
Further, the State government has been constantly focussing on the development of sports in the State. In the last few years, the State has earned the tag of an important place for the development of sports and organizing sports events. This project has been conceived to ensure transformation in the field of sports under the 5T initiatives Urban Sports Infrastructure Development Project’ at a total project cost of Rs 693.35 crore to be completed over the next 18 months.
